Tottenham are out of the FA Cup after Bernard’s extra-time strike sent Everton into quarter-finals with a 5-4 victory in a thrilling tie at Goodison Park.

Spurs were in front early on but needed a late goal from substitute Harry Kane to earn a 4-4 draw in normal time as both sides squandered leads, before Bernard finally settled the affair midway through the first period of extra-time.

Jose Mourinho has left Kane on the bench and Gareth Bale out of his squad altogether but saw his team take the lead inside five minutes as Davinson Sanchez headed home from a corner.

However, the visitors imploded shortly before half-time, conceding three goals in seven minutes as Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson all found the net, the latter from the penalty spot after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s foul.

Just as the Toffees looked to be in charge, though, Erik Lamela gave Spurs hope by pulling one back with a smart finish in first-half stoppage time, before Sanchez netted again after the restart, poking in after Toby Alderweireld’s header had been saved.

Richarlison restored the lead from a tight angle on 68 minutes but Kane sprung from the bench to force extra-time with a close-range header with just seven minutes of the 90 to play.

But it was Bernard that eventually scored the decisive goal, latching onto Sigurdsson’s deft ball in behind to fire across Hugo Lloris and in.
