Chelsea Edge Fulham 3-2 In Thrilling West London Derby

Chelsea secures 3-2 victory over Fulham as Xabi Alonso begins his Premier League reign with three points.

Chelsea began the 2026/27 Premier League campaign with a dramatic 3-2 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage, handing new manager, Xabi Alonso a winning start in his first league match in charge.

The Blues struck early through João Pedro, who opened the scoring after just one minute following an assist from Cole Palmer. Chelsea looked sharp in attack and continued to threaten Fulham’s defence as the visitors took control of the contest.

Palmer was at the heart of Chelsea’s attacking display, later setting up Morgan Rogers to restore the visitors’ advantage. The England international then put his name on the scoresheet to give Chelsea a crucial third goal and cap an influential individual performance.

Fulham refused to surrender on their home turf, with Josh King pulling one back before debutant, Gonzalo García levelled the pressure with another goal. The hosts continued pushing for an equaliser, but Chelsea held firm to secure all three points.

The result gives Alonso a perfect start to his Premier League tenure, while Fulham manager, Álvaro Arbeloa will take encouragement from his side’s attacking response despite the defensive weaknesses that ultimately cost them the match.

Chelsea’s victory also ends a difficult recent run against Fulham, who had beaten the Blues 2-1 in their previous meeting at Craven Cottage in January.
