In a surprising revelation, new details have emerged suggesting that rapper Eminem initially envisioned pop icon Mariah Carey for the role of his mother in his acclaimed semi autobiographical film, 8 Mile.
According to Damizza, a producer who worked with Carey and later headed various Hip Hop radio stations, Eminem actively pursued Carey for the part. Speaking on the TFU Podcast, Damizza recounted his initial apprehension, stating, “I’m not getting in the middle of that. I know how this ends.” He further disclosed that Carey initially declined a meeting until she learned more about the film project.
Damizza detailed the subsequent meeting, revealing that the “first thing out of Eminem’s mouth is, ‘I want you to play my mother.’” He claimed that Carey’s “insecurities kicked in big time” upon hearing the offer.
The producer then alleged that this professional encounter unexpectedly evolved into a brief romantic entanglement between the two music superstars. “It was her chasing him, not him chasing her,” Damizza claimed. “Next thing I know, we are at Eminem’s house, and they disappear. The second they went into his room, literally, I was like, I’m going back to LA. There is no point of me being here. It went from business to fucking.”
Speculation about a brief romantic relationship between Eminem and Carey in 2001 has long circulated, though Carey has consistently denied it. Eminem, however, made his most public assertions regarding their alleged involvement on his 2009 diss track “The Warning.” This song was a direct response to Carey’s single “Obsessed,” which many believed was a veiled jab at the rapper.
On “The Warning,” Eminem controversially rapped, “Wow Mariah, didn’t expect you to go balls out Bitch shut the fuck up ‘fore I put all them phone calls out You made to my house when you was Wild’n Out before Nick When you was on my dick and give you something to smile about.” He further claimed, “Listen, girly, surely you don’t want me to talk about how I nutted early Cause I ejaculated prematurely And bust all over your belly and you almost started hurling And said I was gross, go get a towel, your stomach’s curling.”
Ultimately, Mariah Carey did not appear in 8 Mile. The role of Eminem’s mother was famously played by Oscar winner Kim Basinger, who received widespread critical acclaim for her performance.
