Elon Musk Makes History As Net Worth Hits $638bn

Elon Musk has become the world’s first $638bn individual, widening the wealth gap between himself and other global billionaires.

Elon Musk, chief executive officer of Tesla, has become the first person in history to attain a net worth of $638 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index (BBI).

Data from the index show a significant gap between the South African-born American billionaire and the rest of the world’s wealthiest individuals. Musk’s fortune surged by 42.7 per cent within a year from December 2024, reflecting strong gains across his business interests.

At $638 billion, Musk’s wealth is more than double that of Larry Page, who ranks second on the index with a net worth of $265 billion—a difference of about 140.75 per cent. Sergey Brin and Jeff Bezos follow closely in third and fourth positions, each valued at $246 billion.

Larry Ellison ranks fifth with $238 billion, while Mark Zuckerberg and Bernard Arnault occupy the sixth and seventh spots at $229 billion and $202 billion respectively. The top ten is completed by Steve Ballmer ($166 billion), Jensen Huang ($153 billion), and Warren Buffett ($152 billion).

Musk first made history in December 2024 when he overtook Amazon founder Jeff Bezos to become the first individual to cross the $400 billion mark.

Beyond Tesla, Musk is also the founder of xAI, an artificial intelligence company. He recently announced the launch of Grokipedia, an online encyclopaedia designed to rival Wikipedia, further expanding his footprint in the technology and AI space.
