An early morning fire outbreak on Wednesday gutted part of the Electric Appliances Market in Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, destroying property worth millions of naira.

The fire was reported to have started at about 9:00 a.m., prompting a swift response from the Anambra State Fire Service, which deployed personnel and equipment to contain the blaze.

Chief Fire Officer of the Anambra State Fire Service, Mr. Chukwudi Chiketa, confirmed the incident to journalists, explaining that the inferno affected five shops located on the upper floor of a one-storey building housing electronics and electrical appliances.

“The affected building is a one-storey structure. The inferno affected about five shops upstairs, which contain electronics and parts,” Chiketa said.

He noted that the fire had been successfully controlled and that there was no loss of life.

“The good part of it is that it has been controlled, and there was no loss of life. A lot of shops upstairs and downstairs were saved,” he added.

Chiketa said the cause of the fire was yet to be determined, assuring that investigations would be conducted to ascertain what led to the outbreak.

He urged residents and traders to remain vigilant and adopt fire safety measures, including the installation of fire extinguishers in their shops as a precautionary step before the arrival of emergency responders.
