Death Toll In Kenya’s Floods Rise To At Least 228

At least 228 people are dead and 164 injured as the death toll in Kenya’s destructive floods rise.

The number of people who have died in Kenya’s floods has risen to at least 228, with 72 people currently reported missing and 164 injured.

The floods have affected over 223,000 people, government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura said on Sunday May 5, who also added that the country is still not safe for tourism. Holidaymakers and staff were evacuated from the Maasai Mara national reserve in southwestern Kenya last week.

On May 2nd, authorities issued an order to enforce evacuation. In Nairobi county, 163,210 residents have been evacuated from areas close to the river and alternative accommodation has been arranged for them by the government.
