China Commits To Buy $17bn In US Agricultural Products Annually

US says China will purchase at least $17 billion in US agricultural goods yearly from 2026 to 2028.

China has committed to purchasing at least $17 billion worth of US agricultural products annually between 2026 and 2028, according to a White House fact sheet released on Sunday.

The commitment followed meetings last week between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

The White House said the $17 billion figure excludes separate soybean purchase commitments China made in October 2025.

US agricultural exports to China dropped sharply after rounds of retaliatory tariffs last year reduced trade flows. According to US Department of Agriculture data, exports fell 65.7% year-on-year to $8.4 billion in 2025.

China has also reduced its dependence on American farm imports since Trump’s first term. In 2024, China sourced about 20% of its soybeans from the US, compared with 41% in 2016.

The White House said China would also work with US regulators to remove suspensions on American beef facilities and resume poultry imports from US states declared free of avian influenza.

The two countries will also establish a US-China Board of Trade and a US-China Board of Investment, confirming earlier announcements from Beijing.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the boards would address market access concerns for agricultural products and expand trade “under a reciprocal tariff-reduction framework.”
