Chelsea Sack Liam Rosenior After Poor Run, Appoint McFarlane Interim Boss

Chelsea sack Liam Rosenior after poor results, appoint Calum McFarlane interim boss as club targets Europe and FA Cup success.

Chelsea Football Club have parted ways with Head Coach Liam Rosenior following a run of disappointing performances, the club confirmed in an official press release on Wednesday.

The Premier League side said the decision, though difficult, was driven by declining results at a crucial stage of the campaign.

“This has not been a decision the Club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season,” the club stated.

Chelsea expressed appreciation for Rosenior’s conduct and commitment during his short spell in charge, highlighting his professionalism after stepping in midway through the season.

“On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, we would like to place on record our gratitude to Liam and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club,” the statement read.

“Liam has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism following his appointment midway through the season.”

In the interim, Calum McFarlane has been appointed to take charge of the team until the end of the season, supported by the existing backroom staff.

The club said the immediate focus remains on salvaging the campaign, with ambitions of securing European qualification and progressing in the FA Cup.

“Calum McFarlane will take charge of the team as Interim Head Coach until the end of the season with support from existing Club backroom staff, as we strive to achieve European qualification and progress in the FA Cup,” the club added.

Chelsea also confirmed plans to conduct a thorough review before appointing a permanent head coach.

“As the Club works to bring stability to the Head Coach position, we will undertake a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment.”

The decision marks another managerial change for Chelsea as the club seeks consistency and improved performances in the closing stages of the season.
