The President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr Patrice Motsepe, has congratulated Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, following their qualification for the final of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
Motsepe said the Flamingos had made Africa and CAF proud by reaching the final, describing the achievement as a historic milestone for Nigerian and African football.
Nigeria secured their place in the final after defeating Brazil 3-1 in Wednesday’s semi-final, becoming the first African team to reach the final of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The Flamingos will face Japan in the final on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 18:30 local time in Rabat, Morocco.
Motsepe is expected to travel to Rabat to watch the final as Nigeria seek to win the competition for the first time.
Before Nigeria’s achievement, Ghana finished third at the 2012 edition, while the Flamingos also claimed third place in 2022. Both African teams secured bronze medals after defeating Germany in their respective third-place matches.
