BermudAir has ordered 10 Airbus A220 aircraft as it moves to expand its network across the Caribbean and North America.
The startup carrier said the new aircraft will support the launch of additional services connecting Bermuda with destinations including Anguilla, Belize and the Turks and Caicos Islands, as it seeks to significantly increase its route network.
Chief Executive Officer and Founder Adam Scott said the A220’s performance capabilities would enable BermudAir to enter more markets and strengthen its regional presence.
He added that the airline plans to expand its network from 11 routes to more than 22 by the end of the year.
The order for the A220-300 aircraft was signed at the Farnborough International Airshow. BermudAir, which launched operations in 2023, said the acquisition is part of a long-term fleet strategy that will see it operate up to 20 A220 aircraft by 2030, replacing its Embraer 190 fleet.
Although the airline competes with major US carriers, including JetBlue, American Airlines and United Airlines, on New York routes, Scott said several of the planned destinations face limited direct competition, giving BermudAir an opportunity to establish a stronger presence in underserved markets.
Scott said the airline also intends to distinguish itself by delivering a superior customer experience, adding that its service model offers passengers a compelling alternative to larger competitors.
The expansion includes six new routes to the Turks and Caicos Islands from Newark, Boston, Baltimore-Washington, Raleigh-Durham, Fort Lauderdale and St. Petersburg/Tampa, as well as five new routes to Belize. BermudAir is also extending its seasonal service to Anguilla.
As part of its product enhancements, the airline plans to introduce onboard Wi-Fi across its fleet, a feature that is not currently available on its aircraft.
Scott acknowledged that building an airline requires determination and long-term commitment, saying BermudAir remains focused on steady, sustainable growth as it continues to expand its operations.
