Big Brother has announced that no housemate will be evicted in the first week of Big Brother Naija Season 11, introducing a new game feature called The Gambit, which allows viewers to choose one male and one female housemate to remain in the competition until the season finale, but without the chance of winning the ₦160 million grand prize.
The announcement was made on Monday after the first nominations. Host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu explained that the opening week is a “fake nomination week,” meaning the nominated housemates will not face eviction. Instead of voting to evict, viewers will vote to select one male and one female contestant to become The Gambit through the show’s web, mobile and MyDStv/MyGOtv voting platforms.
Explaining the new format to the housemates, Ebuka said: “This is a fake nomination week, so no housemates will be evicted. That means you will not be voting to evict any of the nominated housemates this week.
“However, as Big Brother has already revealed, you still have a very important role to play in shaping the game. Instead of voting to evict, you’ll be voting to select one male and one female housemate to take on a very special role. This gameplay is called The Gambit.”
Big Brother told the housemates that those chosen as The Gambit would receive a guaranteed place in the house until the end of the season but would no longer be eligible to win the overall prize.
“Should you be selected, you will be gifted longevity in the Big Brother house, guaranteeing you a place in the game until the end of the season,” Big Brother said.
“However, it comes with one important condition. You will not be competing for the grand prize.”
Despite being ineligible for the top prize, the selected housemates will continue to participate fully in the competition.
“You will, however, remain a fully-fledged housemate. And all the rules of the game still apply to you. As you continue to live in the house, you will participate in all house activities, earn rewards, and experience everything the Big Brother house has to offer.”
The Gambit is the latest format change introduced in the “Show Ya Sef” edition of Big Brother Naija, with viewers now deciding which one male and one female housemate will take on the role.
