Three abducted students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (FUAM) in northcentral Benue State have regained their freedom.

Catherine Anene, the Benue state police public relations officer confirmed the development on Wednesday but explained that the students were freed on Tuesday.

The police spokeswoman also noted that no ransom was paid for their release as investigation was still ongoing.

The director of information, protocol and public relations of the institution, Rosemary Waku also confirmed the release of the students.

The university students were abducted when gunmen invaded the school premises on Saturday.

There has been a series of attacks across the country in recent times, with gunmen invading communities and schools, leading to abductions and killings.

In two separate attacks on Greenfield University and the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, both in northwestern Kaduna state, gunmen are still holding the abducted students.

Five of the students kidnapped from Greenfield University have been killed by their abductors while ten of the students abducted from the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation have been released.
