In response to recent media reports concerning potential safety violations by Air Peace at Gatwick Airport, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has stepped forward to address the issue, asserting government’s confidence in the airline’s safety standards.
Keyamo in a press statement released on Wednesday, emphasised that the airline, as Nigeria’s flag carrier on the London route, enjoys the full backing and support of the Nigerian Government in its operations.
The Minister also expressed confidence in the measures taken by Air Peace to address the safety concerns raised by the United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA).
He said, “The Federal Government has full confidence in the continued safety of the operations of all Nigerian flag carriers designated on different international routes, including Air Peace.
“I am informed that the safety issues raised had since been adequately addressed by the Management of Air Peace and promptly closed to the satisfaction of the UK authorities.”
Furthermore, Keyamo, while stressing the government’s commitment to supporting Nigerian airlines operating on international routes, highlighted its dedication to providing necessary assistance and cooperation to ensure the success of Nigerian carriers, including Air Peace, in their international operations.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Federal Government of Nigeria has put its full weight and might behind all the local airlines designated on international routes in their endeavours in prosecuting these operations and shall provide all the necessary assistance and cooperation to ensure their success. Air Peace is no exception in this regard.”
