Arsenal Begin Premier League Title Defence With Convincing 3-0 Win Over Coventry

Reigning champions, Arsenal begin their Premier League title defence with a dominant 3-0 victory over newly-promoted Coventry City at home.

Arsenal FC launched their Premier League title defence with a convincing 3-0 victory over newly-promoted Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium.

Goals from Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and captain, Martin Ødegaard secured an assertive opening-day win for Mikel Arteta’s squad.

The Gunners completely dominated the flow of play, recording 67% possession and 14 shots against the visitors.

The breakthrough came in the 15th minute when Havertz met a low cross from defender, Riccardo Calafiori to fire the hosts ahead.

Just eight minutes later, Saka doubled Arsenal’s advantage, reacting quickest to slot home a loose ball inside the penalty area.

Ødegaard sealed the definitive scoreline shortly after the halftime break, clinically finishing a cutback from full-back Ben White in the 49th minute.

Coventry City, managed by Frank Lampard, struggled to generate offensive momentum in their first top-flight match in 25 years, managed to register just one shot on target throughout the 90 minutes.

The emphatic victory gives Arsenal maximum points to begin their quest for consecutive league crowns, continuing the fine momentum generated by their mid-August Community Shield success.
