A former close associate of former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, and now a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress in Kwara State, Hon. Zakari Mohammed, has emerged as the party’s consensus governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 elections in the state.

Mohammed, who hails from Baruten Local Government Area in Kwara North Senatorial District, emerged as the sole governorship aspirant unanimously adopted by members and leaders of the party as its consensus candidate.

He secured 18,860 votes in the direct primary conducted to affirm his candidacy.

Speaking in Ilorin after the primary election, the Secretary of the Kwara State ADC Governorship Primary Election Committee, Shimaka Sekegh, who announced the results on behalf of the chairman, Orker Yisa, said Hon. Risikat Abdullahi, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo and Malam Taoheed Usman also emerged as the party’s senatorial candidates for Kwara Central, Kwara South and Kwara North respectively.

Other candidates of the party include Hon. Abdulkadir Olanrewaju Oba-Aluko for the Ilorin West/Asa House of Representatives seat, Hon. Tope Olayonu for Oyun/Offa/Ifelodun Federal Constituency, and Saad Isa for Ilorin South/Ilorin East Federal Constituency.

The collation and announcement of the party’s candidates at the state ADC secretariat were monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission led by Mr. Okpanachi Ojodale.

In his remarks, the state ADC Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Mohammed, commended party members for their efforts and expressed satisfaction that the primaries were hitch-free.

He urged party members to return to the 193 electoral wards across the state and begin mobilisation for the forthcoming general elections.

In his acceptance speech, the ADC governorship candidate, Hon. Mohammed, thanked party members for their support, describing his emergence as a victory for the people of the state.

He also promised to transform the state if elected governor next year.

“By the grace of God, we will deliver on the ADC manifesto. It is a party for young people, women, senior citizens, artisans and everyone.

“Everybody is welcome and encouraged to participate. I assure you that, by the grace of God, ADC will take over the control of Ahmadu Bello Government House, Ilorin, next year.

“I urge pensioners, civil servants, farmers, traditional rulers and everyone to recognise that ADC comprises experienced people who will not only ensure good governance but can also be held accountable,” he said.
