Zelenskiy Says Security Guarantees For Ukraine To Be Finalised Within 10 Days

Volodymyr Zelenskiy has said that Ukraine’s security guarantees would be finalised within 10 days, following assurances from Donald Trump

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Tuesday that security guarantees for Kyiv would likely be finalised within the next 10 days following talks with US President Donald Trump and European leaders in Washington.

“Security guarantees will probably be ‘unpacked’ by our partners, and more and more details will emerge. All of this will somehow be formalised on paper within the next week to 10 days,” Zelenskiy said at a press briefing after the meetings.

On Monday, Trump told Zelenskiy that the United States would help guarantee Ukraine’s security in any agreement to end Russia’s war, although the scope of Washington’s support was not immediately defined.

“It is important that the United States is sending a clear signal that it will be among the countries helping to coordinate and will also be a participant in the security guarantees for Ukraine,” Zelenskiy stated. “I believe this is a major step forward.”

Despite the progress, officials acknowledged that a peace settlement remained distant. Zelenskiy nevertheless described his meeting with Trump as his “best” so far and said Ukraine remained open to talks with Russia.

He stressed that discussions on territorial matters would be held directly with Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding, “The question of territories is something we will leave between me and Putin.” However, no date has yet been set for a potential meeting with Moscow.

Outlining the terms of the security guarantees, Zelenskiy revealed they included a US weapons package valued at $90 billion, consisting mainly of aircraft and air defence systems. “There indeed is a package with our proposals worth $90 billion,” he said.

He further disclosed an export deal with Washington, noting, “And we have agreements with the US president that when our export opens, they will buy Ukrainian drones. This is important for us.”
