Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has dismissed concerns over President Bola Tinubu’s absence from the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, saying it is not an issue.
Lawal said the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, is representing the President and will deliver his message at the gathering.
“So in an administration where there’s something that makes it impossible for you to attend, of course, you always delegate. And I think there’s a reason why the president couldn’t make it for some reasons. Now the vice president is going to represent Nigeria, so I think, I mean, it’s OK.
“The message is still the president’s message that the VP is going to deliver. So I don’t see that as any issue. I mean, he has been doing that, so I don’t think it’s a big issue that people should talk about.”
The governor also urged Nigerians to give the President the benefit of the doubt over his absence, saying the Vice President’s presence provides representation for the President.
“So let’s give him that benefit of, you know, at least the vice president will be there to represent the president. That will also back him up on some national level. Certainly.”
