Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer Xpeng is recalling 33,473 X9 vehicles in China over a potential safety defect affecting the front air suspension system, according to a statement released on Friday by the country’s market regulator.
The recall covers X9 vehicles manufactured between August 8, 2023 and August 11, 2025.
The regulator said some of the affected vehicles may experience reduced airtightness in the front air springs, which could lead to a gradual air leak after prolonged use in hot and humid conditions.
According to the statement, the defect could trigger malfunction warning alerts and, in extreme cases, affect the vehicle’s handling, posing a potential safety risk.
Separately, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said it inspected Xpeng and Guangzhou Automobile Group’s electric vehicle unit, GAC Aion, on Friday to assess the safety of their vehicles and ensure consistency in their production processes.
