Wike’s Son Faces EFCC Petition Over Alleged $2.1m Land Deal

A businessman seeks an EFCC probe into Jordan Wike over an alleged $2.1 million land deal as court proceedings continue.

A businessman, Safwan Garba, and his company, GY Global Oil & Gas Nigeria Limited, have petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate Jordan Nyesom-Wike, son of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, over an alleged $2.1 million fraud linked to proposed land allocations in Abuja.

The petitioners alleged that Jordan claimed to have his father’s approval to facilitate the allocation of 60 hectares of land in Katampe and Guzape, Abuja, before collecting the money.

The allegations are also the subject of a civil suit filed by the claimants against Jordan at the FCT High Court. Jordan has denied the claims, telling the court that he was outside Nigeria on the date the businessmen alleged they paid him.

In a petition dated December 11, 2025, and signed by their lawyer, Hamza Dantani, the claimants alleged that Jordan promised to secure 30 hectares each in Katampe and Guzape, claiming he routinely facilitated land allocations with his father’s backing.

They accused him of fraud, obtaining money by false pretences, criminal misappropriation and conversion of the $2.1 million allegedly paid for the proposed allocations.

According to the petition, Jordan reinforced his claims by calling his father on the telephone in the businessman’s presence, ostensibly to inform him about the proposed transaction.

“Our client met Jordan Nyesom-Wike in London, following which the two developed a rapport,” the petition reads.

“Upon returning to Nigeria about three months ago, Jordan met with our client. He promised to facilitate the acquisition of land within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), based on his prior representations that he routinely provided such facilitation and that he had his father’s knowledge and approval, as the Honourable Minister of the FCT.

“To strengthen these representations, Jordan placed a telephone call to his father in the presence of our client, ostensibly informing him of the intended transaction.”

The petition alleged that Jordan demanded $2 million, which he said he would deliver to his father to facilitate the allocations. The businessman allegedly paid another $100,000 as Jordan’s personal facilitation fee.

The claimants said the full $2.1 million was paid in cash on October 17, 2025, at Jordan’s insistence, in the presence of two witnesses, Adamu Sani and Aliyu Sarki.

According to the petition, Jordan was accompanied by a man identified as Onor Sandy, whom he introduced as a friend and associate.

Jordan allegedly promised to deliver the land allocations within one month but failed to do so after receiving the money.

The petitioners further alleged that he later became unreachable and that the UK telephone number he provided stopped working. They said attempts to reach him through people known to the FCT minister were also unsuccessful.

The petition asked the EFCC to investigate Jordan, arrest and question him, and prosecute him if the investigation establishes criminal liability. The claimants said they were willing to provide witnesses and further information to assist the commission.

They also attached an acknowledgment of payment signed by Jordan, according to the petition.

Speaking to journalists at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, Ibrahim Waru, counsel to the claimants, said the EFCC had acknowledged receipt of the petition but had yet to act on it.

Waru said the petition sought an investigation into the alleged criminal aspects of the dispute, separate from the civil proceedings already pending before the FCT High Court.

Meanwhile, Silvanus Oriji, a judge of the FCT High Court, has fixed December 1 for the continuation of hearing in the civil suit, marked CV/008/2026, filed by the claimants against Jordan.

Jordan has denied the allegations, telling the court that he was not in Nigeria on the date the claimants said they handed him the money.

He tendered his international passport in support of his position, maintaining that he travelled outside Nigeria on his American passport during the period in question.

The claimants have also petitioned the chief judge of the FCT High Court, seeking Oriji’s removal from the case over an alleged relationship with the minister’s family.
