Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said he will personally lead the campaign for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the Federal Capital Territory in the 2027 elections.
Wike made the declaration on Friday while speaking with journalists after inspecting the ongoing dualisation of Phase II of the Kuje-Gwagwalada road. “For us who are supporting Mr. President, we have put all our machinery ready to fully kick start. Very soon, I will launch the campaign team for Mr. President in FCT, and I will lead the campaign for Mr. President in FCT.”
Wike said the political coalition supporting Tinubu was ready to begin its campaign, adding that the All Progressives Congress and the President were also prepared for the process.
“The party Mr. President belongs to, the APC, has also said it’s ready. Mr. President is ready, and you can see the enthusiasm of the people.”
The minister said the administration’s delivery of infrastructure and other projects would influence residents’ support for Tinubu and other candidates during the elections. “This is governance; this is what people are expecting, and this is what will translate to actual votes.”
Wike said residents’ positive response to projects in the FCT showed that governance could translate directly into electoral support.
“Without this, you can’t get any vote. But with this, they will of course not waste time before putting their votes for Mr. President, for Senator Philip Aduda, and the two House of Representatives candidates.”
He also dismissed suggestions that electoral manipulation would determine the outcome in the FCT, using the ongoing road projects as an example of what he described as the administration’s political strength. “So, it’s not what somebody will go and say, ‘Oh, there is rigging in the FCT.’ The rigging is the project we are doing, and making the people happy.”
Wike spoke after inspecting the Kuje-Gwagwalada road project being handled by Gilmor Engineering, where he commended the pace of construction and promised continued funding to meet the December completion target. “The contractor, Gilmor Engineering, is doing very well. We have come to assure them that by the grace of God, funds will be made available to them so that they will be able to meet up by December.”
The minister said the large population along the road corridor and the reception he received during the inspection reinforced the importance of infrastructure delivery in governance.
“You can imagine the enthusiasm, the happiness on the faces of the people. That is why we are saying that the whole essence of governance is to make people happy.”
Wike also thanked Tinubu for his support for the FCT administration, saying the response of residents to ongoing projects had strengthened his confidence in the administration. “Seeing the enthusiasm that we have had because of the road, I’m very elated to be part of this system, and I wish to thank Mr. President for his support to the FCT Administration, which has been very wonderful.”
He said he believed Tinubu’s support in the FCT would be reflected in the 2027 election.
“As I said yesterday, people are happy. I don’t know who will come and contest against Mr. President as far as the election in the FCT is concerned.”
Wike said after launching and leading Tinubu’s FCT campaign, he would return to Rivers State to continue his political activities in support of the President’s re-election bid.
