Wike, Fubara Hold Four-Hour Closed-Door Meeting As Rivers Reconciliation Efforts Intensify

Wike, Fubara, Chinda and their supporters held a closed-door meeting in Port Harcourt as political reconciliation efforts continue.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda; and their supporters have met with Governor Siminalayi Fubara and members of his political camp as part of ongoing efforts to reconcile the state’s rival political factions.

The closed-door meeting, held at the governor’s residence in Port Harcourt, lasted about four hours, with Wike and Chinda arriving with their supporters at about 4pm to join Fubara and his team for discussions.

The meeting is the first time Fubara would host or personally participate in a reconciliation meeting involving his supporters, marking a significant development in efforts to consolidate the emerging rapprochement between the feuding camps.

The development comes after years of political disagreements between Fubara and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly loyal to Wike, which led to a prolonged crisis in the state and culminated in President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in March 2025, with the governor, his deputy and the lawmakers suspended. The emergency rule was lifted in September 2025, with Fubara and the state lawmakers reinstated.

The latest meeting ended at about 8pm, but none of the participants addressed journalists afterwards. Details of the discussions and the specific outcome were not disclosed by either side.

The meeting also came against the backdrop of Wike’s recent comments that Fubara had corrected his political mistakes by returning to the political family that produced him as governor. Wike said, “He has publicly stated that he has returned to where he started, and we receive him with an open mind.”

“There is nothing to hide. We will all work together to ensure that we deliver the votes President Tinubu needs for his re-election,” the FCT minister added.
