Nigeria produced an outstanding attacking display to beat Egypt 6-2 on Wednesday and book a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women AFCON, where they will face Cameroon.
The Super Falcons took the lead in the 21st minute after Asisat Oshoala calmly converted a penalty awarded following a VAR handball review.
Gift Monday doubled Nigeria’s advantage in first-half stoppage time after finishing a well-worked short-corner move involving Toni Payne and Rinsola Babajide. Egypt reduced the deficit before the break to make it 2-1.
Nigeria regained full control after the restart. Substitute Uchenna Kanu restored the two-goal lead in the 57th minute with a left-footed finish.
The Super Falcons extended their advantage through two VAR-awarded penalties. Christy Ucheibe converted the first in the 80th minute before captain Rasheedat Ajibade added another from the spot eight minutes later.
Nigeria rounded off the emphatic victory deep into stoppage time when Gift Monday and Ajibade combined to set up Joy Omewa, who scored her first-ever Women AFCON goal to complete the 6-2 win.
The Super Falcons will now face long-time rivals Cameroon in the quarter-finals.
