VP Shettima Leaves Abuja For Guinea Inauguration, Then Heads To Davos World Economic Forum

Vice President Shettima represents President Tinubu in Guinea and Davos, advancing Nigeria’s regional leadership and global economic engagement agenda.

Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja to represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the inauguration of Guinea-Conakry’s President-elect, Mamadi Doumbouya, before proceeding to Davos, Switzerland, for the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

According to a statement issued by the Office of the Vice President, Shettima will attend the presidential inauguration scheduled for Saturday, January 17, at the GLC Stadium in Nongo, Conakry, following President Doumbouya’s election victory.

The Vice President’s participation in the inauguration is described as a strategic engagement under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, aimed at strengthening regional leadership, deepening economic partnerships, and advancing global economic integration.

Nigeria’s representation at the ceremony also underscores its leadership role within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), particularly in supporting Guinea’s return to constitutional order after a four-year political transition.

Beyond diplomatic solidarity, the visit is expected to further enhance bilateral trade relations between Nigeria and Guinea. Recent trade data indicate that Nigerian exports to Guinea, especially manufactured goods and agricultural products, have risen to approximately 3.29 million dollars.

Following the inauguration in Guinea-Conakry, Vice President Shettima will travel to Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, to participate in the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum, scheduled to hold from January 19 to January 23, 2026.

The 2026 World Economic Forum, themed “A Spirit of Dialogue,” will convene global leaders from government, business, civil society, and scientific and cultural communities to promote trusted dialogue, collaborative problem-solving, and future-oriented solutions to pressing global challenges.

Key discussions at the forum will centre on the rapid changes driven by frontier technologies, including artificial intelligence, quantum computing, next-generation biotechnology, and advanced energy systems. Deliberations will focus on how these innovations can be responsibly deployed to unlock new growth opportunities, expand access across emerging markets, invest in skills for a transforming workforce, and advance sustainable and inclusive development.

During the forum, Vice President Shettima is expected to engage with global leaders and investors on Nigeria’s economic reform agenda, highlight investment opportunities in the country, and articulate Africa’s role in shaping a resilient and inclusive global future.

The Vice President is expected to return to Nigeria after the conclusion of his official engagements in Davos.
