The U.S. government announced new visa restrictions targeting Nigerians accused of undermining religious freedom amid what Washington described as the targeted persecution of Christians in Nigeria.

It comes as in a Fox News interview, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio described radical Islam as a clear and imminent danger to the world and the United States.

The announcement of the visa ban comes a day after lawmakers convened a roundtable in D.C. with religious freedom and foreign relations experts to discuss violence in Nigeria on President Donald Trump’s directive.

In a similar vein, U.S. lawmakers have been urged to pressure the Nigerian government to abolish Sharia law in northern states, with experts warning that these laws and groups are fuelling persecution.

In the meantime, the Senate confirmed the appointment of former Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence after a rigorous 5 hour screening.

During the screening, General Musa declared a hardline stance against negotiating with criminals, stating that such negotiations compromise national security.

The screening turned tense, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio pushing back on Musa being allowed to take a “bow and go,” citing pressure from the United States and saying that “even Donald Trump is on our neck.”

It comes as the House of Representatives called on the federal government to reveal the financiers behind terrorism and banditry in Nigeria, saying they should be named, sanctioned and prosecuted.

In another development, a new video of a soldier breaks down the low salaries of officers in the army, with the soldier saying they only make N104,000 Naira once they join the military.

In Enugu State, Governor Peter Mbah revamped the State’s Forest Guard in a bid to strengthen security across the state by equipping the guards with sophisticated weapons.

A new video has gone viral on social media, showing dozens of brand new luxury cars branded under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda for mobilisation ahead of 2027.
