The United States has announced a major update to its non-immigrant visa policy for Nigerian citizens, reducing the validity of most non-immigrant and non-official visas to a single entry with a three-month duration.
A statement released by the United States Diplomatic Mission in Nigeria on Tuesday showed the US has reduced the validity of most non-immigrant, non-diplomatic visas to three months with one-time entry.
The statement read, “The US Department of State updated its reciprocal non-immigrant visa policy. Effective today, most non-immigrant & non-official visas for Nigerian citizens will be single-entry with 3-month validity. Visas issued before July 8, 2025 remain unchanged.”
The policy means that Nigerian travellers issued a US visa from July 8 onwards will only be allowed to enter the United States once within a 90-day window, a significant reduction from the previous two-year multiple-entry visas commonly issued.
