The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development pushes to eliminate the practice and has UNICEF urging world leaders to begin acting on this commitment made in 2015 to abolish genital mutilation practices on women and girls in Africa, Nigeria included.

The UN also set February 6th as ‘International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation’ in solidarity and to raise awareness on the impacts of the traditional practice.

The production of sachet water, otherwise known as “pure water” is seen in a viral video that raises further concern on the hygienic safety of the water and ‘brand’.
