Thousands of residents of Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State have turned out to welcome the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, during a spontaneous homecoming reception, expressing support for President Bola Tinubu’s infrastructure development efforts and his re-election bid in 2027.
The reception, described as an unofficial gathering organised by residents, followed Umahi’s engagements with stakeholders in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital, on November 2, 2026.
Residents from different communities across Uburu and Ohaozara gathered to celebrate their son and commend his appointment as Minister of Works, describing it as an opportunity for him to contribute his experience in infrastructure development to national service.
The gathering also provided an opportunity for community leaders and stakeholders to express appreciation to President Tinubu for entrusting Umahi with the responsibility of overseeing federal road infrastructure across the country.
Among those who addressed the gathering were Onu Okorie, Prince Mathew and Comrade Kingsley Obini, alongside other prominent stakeholders.
In their separate remarks, the speakers expressed pride in Umahi’s role in the Federal Executive Council and commended what they described as his contributions to national development.
They also praised President Tinubu for giving their son the opportunity to serve at the federal level, saying the appointment had brought attention to the South East and its infrastructure needs.
The residents particularly highlighted the importance of federal road and bridge projects in the South East, where poor road conditions have remained a concern for motorists, traders, businesses and other residents.
They called for sustained infrastructure development across the region, noting that improved road networks would support economic activities and connectivity.
The speakers also declared their support for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, linking their position to the administration’s infrastructure investments and the opportunity given to Umahi to serve as Minister of Works.
The reception followed Umahi’s series of stakeholder engagements in Abakaliki, where political and developmental issues affecting Ebonyi State and the country were discussed.
