The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has suggested that his administration may shift its attention to Cuba once ongoing military operations involving Iran are concluded.
Trump made the remarks at the White House during a visit by players and officials of Inter Miami CF, champions of the 2025 Major League Soccer season, on Thursday.
Addressing an audience that included several Miami residents of Cuban heritage, the US president suggested Washington could soon turn its focus to the Caribbean nation after the current conflict in the Middle East is resolved.
“What’s happening with Cuba is amazing. We think that we want to fix, finish this one first, but that will be just a question of time before you and a lot of unbelievable people are going to be going back to Cuba, hopefully not to stay,” Trump said.
His remarks come less than a week into escalating hostilities in the Middle East involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
Providing an update on the conflict, Trump said American and Israeli forces were continuing their military campaign against Iranian targets.
“We are totally demolishing the enemy,” the president said while discussing the war.
Trump also praised Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, for his role in shaping the administration’s foreign policy during the ongoing crisis.
