Donald Trump has confirmed that an American crew member shot down in a fighter jet over Iran has been successfully rescued in what he described as a “daring” military operation, as tensions between the United States and Iran continue to escalate.
The rescued officer, identified as a weapons systems operator aboard a F-15 Eagle, was declared “safe and sound” following a high-risk recovery mission deep inside Iranian territory. Trump disclosed that the operation involved direct engagement between US and Iranian forces, underscoring the volatile security environment surrounding the incident.
The airman had been missing after the fighter jet was brought down in southern Iran. According to US officials, another crew member the pilot had earlier been located and rescued, but the second officer’s whereabouts remained uncertain for several hours, raising fears of capture.
At one point, Iranian authorities reportedly launched a parallel search effort, offering cash rewards to civilians to locate the missing American “alive.” The development heightened concerns in Washington that the situation could devolve into a prisoner-of-war scenario, potentially handing Tehran a significant propaganda advantage.
US officials described the rescue as a race against time, with both sides scrambling to locate the downed crew member first. The successful extraction, carried out under hostile conditions, is now being portrayed by the White House as a major operational and strategic success.
Trump praised the mission as one of the most “daring” in US military history, arguing that it demonstrated American air superiority over Iranian airspace. The operation, he suggested, reflects broader US military dominance in the region despite ongoing hostilities.
The rescue comes amid a sharp escalation in rhetoric and military activity between Washington and Tehran. Trump has reiterated his threat to intensify US strikes unless Iran agrees to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz within 48 hours an ultimatum Iranian authorities have so far rejected.
Meanwhile, Iran has continued retaliatory strikes across the Gulf, which it says are in response to coordinated US-Israeli attacks. Overnight, multiple locations in Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait were reportedly hit. Targets included a government facility, an oil complex, and critical infrastructure such as power generation and water desalination plants, which Kuwaiti authorities attributed to Iranian drone attacks.
