Trump Demands Microsoft Fire Lisa Monaco Over Security Concerns

Trump urges Microsoft to dismiss Lisa Monaco, alleging security risks tied to her past government role and clearance removal.

President Donald Trump has called for Microsoft to fire Lisa Monaco, its president of global affairs and a former US deputy attorney general.

The demand appeared Friday on Trump’s Truth Social account, which has about 10 million followers. It came a day after former FBI Director James Comey was indicted, following Trump’s push for prosecutors to take action against him.

In his post, Trump wrote: “She is a menace to US National Security, especially given the major contracts that Microsoft has with the United States Government. Because of Monaco’s many wrongful acts, the US Government recently stripped her of all Security Clearances, took away all of her access to National Security Intelligence, and banned her from all Federal Properties.”

Microsoft declined to comment on Trump’s remarks. Monaco, who joined the company in July according to her LinkedIn profile, previously served in senior legal and security roles in government.

Earlier on Friday, Fox Business anchor Maria Bartiromo flagged her appointment in a post on X that linked to a July article on the University of Chicago Law School’s website.

The US government is one of Microsoft’s largest clients, with agencies relying on its cloud infrastructure and productivity software. Earlier this month, the company announced $3.1 billion in cost savings for federal agencies using its services.

Separately, Microsoft said Thursday it would end cloud-based storage and artificial intelligence subscriptions for a unit of the Israeli military after investigating claims the division had developed a system to monitor Palestinian phone calls.

The controversy comes as Trump prepares to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, according to NBC News. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella also attended a White House dinner with other technology executives earlier this month.
