The trial of eleven suspects linked to the killing of ARISE News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu and security guard Barnabas Danlami has stalled again at the FCT High Court in Jabi, Abuja.
Justice Mohammed Idris adjourned proceedings after the lead prosecutor, Adama Musa, failed to appear in court. Musa was said to be engaged in another criminal matter at a sister court in Apo.
The latest development marks the second delay within three days. On Monday, proceedings were halted after the Nigerian Correctional Service failed to produce the defendants, claiming they were unaware of the scheduled trial date.
Following the fresh setback, Justice Idris fixed April 21, 22, and 23 for continuation of the trial. The judge expressed hope that the prosecution would conclude its case during the adjourned dates, paving the way for judgment before the end of the year.
All eleven defendants, including Shamsu Hassan and ten others, have pleaded not guilty to a nine count charge bordering on conspiracy, robbery, and murder.
The charges arise from a violent robbery that occurred on September 29, 2025, at Unique Apartments in Katampe Extension, Abuja, where Maduagwu and Danlami were killed.
The repeated adjournments have raised concerns over delays in the high profile case, as the court pushes for a speedy resolution.
