Nigerians were among those honoured at the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) in Dallas, Texas, for achievements in entertainment and contributions to national development.
The ceremony took place on Saturday at Annette Strauss Square within the AT&T Performing Arts Centre in Dallas. Businessman and Niger Delta leader Government “Tompolo” Ekpemupolo received the Guardian of the Nation Award, while comedian Anita “Real Warri Pikin” Asuoha won Best Stand-Up Comedian and Nigerian-American DJ and record producer Michael “DJ Tunez” Adeyinka won Best African DJ.
AFRIMMA said Tompolo received the Guardian of the Nation Award for his contribution to protecting Nigeria’s critical national assets.
The organisation particularly recognised his work through Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited, where he serves as chairman, in efforts against crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism.
AFRIMMA also credited Tompolo with supporting peace, community engagement, job creation and development across the Niger Delta.
The organisation said the award recognises people whose contributions demonstrate a commitment to protecting Nigeria’s interests and supporting the country’s development.
In the entertainment categories, Real Warri Pikin won Best Stand-Up Comedian ahead of fellow Nigerians Basketmouth, Bovi and Godfrey, as well as comedians from other African countries.
She celebrated the achievement on Instagram, writing, “We won #afrimma Best Stand-up Comedian 2026.”
DJ Tunez won the Best African DJ category, beating nominees including DJ Spinall, Uncle Waffles, DJ Obi, DJ Kaywise and Major League DJs.
The AFRIMMA ceremony brought together African entertainers and other personalities in Dallas to celebrate achievements in music and entertainment.
