Tinubu To Meet UK PM Starmer As Britain Unveils Programme For State Visit

Tinubu will meet UK Prime Minister Starmer during historic state visit featuring royal reception, bilateral talks and agreements.

President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer as part of his upcoming state visit to the UK, according to the official programme released by the British government.

The visit, scheduled for March 17 to 19, will include ceremonial engagements, diplomatic meetings and interactions with members of the Nigerian diaspora. �

Preparations for the visit will begin on March 17, with security sweeps, road closures and rehearsal of the ceremonial procession ahead of the president’s arrival.

Tinubu is expected to arrive in the United Kingdom on March 18, where he will be received by Prince William and Catherine, the Princess of Wales.

A ceremonial welcome will take place along Datchet Road, featuring the playing of national anthems and inspection of a guard of honour.

Following the ceremony, the Nigerian leader will join a carriage procession to Windsor Castle, where he will be received by King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

The programme includes a formal reception, a 21-gun salute and a state luncheon at St George’s Hall.

Later in the day, Tinubu will hold bilateral discussions with British officials focusing on trade, security cooperation, migration and port development.

The day’s activities will conclude with a cultural exchange event showcasing Nigerian artefacts, followed by a state banquet at Windsor Castle.

On March 19, Tinubu will hold a private breakfast with the King and Queen before proceeding to London for additional engagements.

In London, he is expected to lay a wreath at the Cenotaph in Westminster before meeting Prime Minister Starmer at 10 Downing Street for bilateral talks and a working lunch.

The visit will also feature meetings with members of the Nigerian diaspora and the signing of bilateral agreements at Buckingham Palace.

Tinubu is expected to depart the United Kingdom from RAF Northolt at the end of the visit.

The trip marks Nigeria’s first full state visit to the United Kingdom in 57 years, highlighting efforts by both countries to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties.
