Tinubu Returns To Abuja After State Visit To Türkiye

President Tinubu returns to Abuja after high-level talks in Türkiye on security, defence cooperation and expanded economic ties.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday evening returned to Abuja after concluding a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye.

The President’s aircraft, Nigeria Air Force One, landed at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 8:55 p.m.

He was received on arrival by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

President Tinubu’s visit to Ankara featured a series of high-level diplomatic and strategic engagements aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s bilateral relations with Türkiye.

During the trip, the President held bilateral talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, alongside meetings with senior government officials and leaders of Türkiye’s defence industry.
The engagements underscored Nigeria’s renewed diplomatic push, with key outcomes including Türkiye’s reaffirmed commitment to deepen cooperation with Nigeria in security, military training and intelligence sharing, particularly in support of Nigeria’s fight against insurgency.

Both countries also reiterated their resolve to expand economic relations, reaffirming a shared target of achieving a $5 billion trade volume, signalling stronger commercial and investment ties.

President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the Turkish government for its openness to collaboration, noting that discussions focused on counter-terrorism, economic growth and joint efforts to defeat forces threatening regional stability.
