Tinubu Renames Federal University After Late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi

Tinubu renames Federal University of Medical Sciences, Azare, after late Tijjaniyya leader Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.

President Bola Tinubu has renamed the Federal University of Medical Sciences, Azare in Bauchi State as the Sheikh Usman Dahiru-Bauchi. He said that the renaming was to immortalize the late prominent Islamic Scholar who died on 27th November, 2025, at the age of 102. “From today onward, I will announce the change of name to immortalise him, from the Federal University of Health and Medical Sciences, Azare, Bauchi State, to be known as Sheikh Dahiru Usman-Bauchi University, Azare,” he declared.The President described late Dahiru-Bauchi as a great scholar, a Nigerian conscience who worked hard on the path of the Almighty Allah, preaching the knowledge and the value of honesty and great character. He said: “It is a great day to be able to send my condolences to all of you, the government, the people and the general public and not just Bauchi State alone, but throughout the country.”The late Sheikh brought impactful knowledge to the people, he was a great scholar, a Nigerian conscience that has worked so hard on the path of the Almighty Allah, preaching the work of sermon, the knowledge and the value of honesty and a great character. He was kind to both direct or indirect members of the family and he loved the country. “We came from Almighty Allah and shall return to Him. And the best for us is to continue to pray for peace and stability of our country, for economic prosperity and development and live the value that he left behind. “May Almighty Allah grant him Aljanah Fridaus. May God continue to keep all of you safe, keep our country together, give us peace and prosperity and good development. “The President who was accompanied by the Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas and his son, Seyi Tinubu.

He was received at the Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport by the Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed; Plateau State Governor, Caleb Muftwang, Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Ali Pate; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar; Senator Representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Shehu Buba; former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara and top government officials.

Dahiru-Bauchi, who was one of the world leaders of the Tijjaniyya Islamic sect, died on 27th November, 2025 at the age of 102.
