Tinubu May Present 2025 Budget Proposal To Parliament on Wednesday

President Tinubu’s budget presentation to lawmakers may shift to Wednesday due to ongoing Executive-Legislative discussions.

President Bola Tinubu may present the 2025 budget estimate to a joint session of the National Assembly on Wednesday.

The President had last week written to the legislative arm of his desire to present the 2025 budget proposal on Tuesday.

Indication of a likely change in the budget presentation date was given on Monday by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, while answering reporters’ questions at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Abuja.

According to him, the Executive and the National Assembly are currently engaged in discussions which may culminate in the shifting of the budget presentation to the federal lawmakers to Wednesday.

Idris also disclosed that FEC approved the renaming of the University of Abuja after elder statesman and former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon.

The Minister said Council decided to honour General Gowon with the renaming of the University of Abuja after him based on his contribution to the unity and development of Nigeria as a nation.

Idris stated that the Executive will before long send a bill to the National Assembly requesting for the change of the name of the University of Abuja to Yakubu Gowon University, Abuja.

He also announced the approval of free train rides across Nigeria from December 20, 2024, to January 6, 2025, as part of measures to ease transportation costs during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Idris said the initiative aims to cushion the impact of transportation costs, particularly for vulnerable Nigerians.

A similar initiative was introduced last year, providing free train services and a 50% discount on road transportation from December 21, 2023, to January 4, 2024, which was later extended.
