President Bola Tinubu has called on Nigerians to embrace peace, tolerance, and unity as essential pillars for nation-building.
The President made the appeal on Friday after observing Eid-el-Fitr prayers at Dodan Barracks, where he emphasised that the responsibility for national peace and security rests on all citizens.
“I pray for peace in the country. The stability, peace and security of the nation is not just one man’s responsibility. We are all involved,” Tinubu said.
He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, stressing that collective responsibility is key to safeguarding the nation.
The President also encouraged citizens to uphold the lessons of Ramadan and Lent—particularly patience, tolerance, charity, and neighbourliness—beyond the fasting period.
“We must continue to be our brother’s keeper. Good behaviour, good neighbours, and love for humanity,” he added.
Tinubu noted that all religions ultimately promote the worship of one God, urging Nigerians to reflect spiritual values such as kindness, discipline, and compassion in their daily lives.
He further stressed that nation-building is a shared and inclusive task, calling for greater appreciation of Nigeria’s diversity as a source of strength.
Reflecting on his recent visit to the United Kingdom, where he was hosted by King Charles III and Queen Camilla, Tinubu described the engagement as an opportunity to showcase Nigeria’s diversity and strengthen global partnerships.
“Our visit was a very big opportunity for us to be a good example of the diversity in our society… tolerance among all faiths,” he said.
Also speaking, Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat assured that the state would continue to prioritise peace and the wellbeing of its residents.
Earlier, the Grand Chief Imam of Lagos State, Sulaiman Oluwatoyin Abou-Nolla, urged Muslims to sustain the virtues of piety, discipline, and peaceful coexistence.
He called for calm and wisdom amid global uncertainties, reminding citizens that Islam promotes peace, restraint, and compassion.
The President was accompanied to the Eid ground by top officials, including Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, and former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola.
