Tinubu Arrives Abuja After Signing Five Strategic MoUs To Boost Nigeria-Brazil Relations

Tinubu has arrived in Abuja from Brazil after a state visit where five key agreements were signed to strengthen ties.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Brasília for Abuja after concluding his state visit to Brazil, where five key Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to enhance cooperation between both nations.

According to a press statement issued on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the presidential jet took off from Brasília International Airport Air Force Base at exactly 12:57 pm local time.

The statement noted that top Brazilian officials, including Ambassador Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, Secretary for Africa and the Middle East, and Ambassador Carlos José Areias Moreno Garcete, Brazil’s envoy to Nigeria, were at the airport to bid the President farewell. Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, other senior government officials, and a guard of honour led by Col. Cel Nicolas were also present at the brief departure ceremony.

The press release further recalled that President Tinubu arrived in Brasília on Monday, August 25, for what was described as a “strategic diplomatic engagement” aimed at strengthening relations between Nigeria and Brazil. On arrival, the Nigerian leader was accorded a red-carpet welcome and full military honours at the Palácio do Planalto.

During the visit, President Tinubu met with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and senior Brazilian officials. Both leaders witnessed the signing of five MoUs covering aviation, foreign affairs, science and technology, and agriculture, which the Presidency described as “key sectors in Nigeria’s development agenda.”

The signed agreements are expected to foster closer economic, technological, and agricultural collaboration between both nations as part of efforts to advance Nigeria’s strategic growth objectives.
