The feud between the Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu took a dramatic turn on Monday, after reports began circulating alleging that Shaibu was locked out of the government house by Obaseki.

An unsigned statement, which made a case for the governor, claimed that Shaibu attempted to force his way into the personal office of the governor along with his security aides, even when his office had been moved to another property. The statement went further to claim that Shuaibu had tried to confront the governor at his office but met his absence. He was then told by security guarding the office, that he needed permission before he could be let into the office, but he insisted on gaining access into the Governor’s personal office.

Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, on Monday accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of nepotism, alleging that most of the key appointments in his government were allotted to Nigerians from his ethnic group.

The group stressed that the recent appointments of the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Yemi Cardoso, just 48 hours after appointing Zachaeus Adedeji as the acting chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue, is a testament that the President is pushing an unseemly pro-ethnic agenda.

The accusation is coming as President Tinubu appointed 18 aides comprising special advisers and senior special assistants to the office of Vice-President Kashim Shettima. One of the notable names on the list eliciting several reactions on social media, is Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum, and the elder brother of Datti Baba-Ahmed, Vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
