Three fighter jets reportedly crashed in India’s Jammu and Kashmir region on Wednesday, according to four local government sources. The incident occurred just hours after India claimed to have carried out air strikes targeting nine “terrorist infrastructure” sites across the border in Pakistan.
The Indian government has not officially confirmed the cause of the crashes, and it remains unclear whether they were related to Pakistan’s reported retaliation or operational failures.
A Pakistani military spokesperson said that five Indian aircraft had been shot down in response to the cross-border strikes. However, this claim has not been corroborated by Indian authorities.
The developments mark a significant escalation in military tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours, raising concerns of further conflict in the already volatile region of Jammu and Kashmir.
Diplomatic responses from both countries are awaited as the international community closely monitors the situation.
