Terrorists Abduct 12 Residents In Kano, 48 Hours After Army Rescues Seven Victims

Terrorists kidnapped 12 residents in Kano, just two days after troops rescued seven victims in the same area.

Barely 48 hours after troops of the 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, supported by the Nigerian Air Force and police, rescued seven kidnapped victims in Kano State, terrorists have again abducted 12 residents in fresh attacks across two communities.

The earlier operation, which occurred last Friday, led to the rescue of seven abductees, while a 60-year-old woman was killed by terrorists during the assault. According to Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade, Major Babatunde Zubairu, troops pursued the fleeing terrorists toward Kankia Local Government Area in Katsina State but were unable to track their final location.

“The troops pursued the bandits along their withdrawal route towards Rimaye, engaged them with a high volume of fire, and swiftly rescued the abducted victims. However, four of the kidnapped victims remain unaccounted for,” Zubairu said.

However, relief after the rescue was short-lived as terrorists launched another attack on Sunday night in Unguwar Tsamiya in Faruruwa village and Dabawa community, all in Shanono Local Government Area.

A community leader, Alhaji Yahaya Bagobiri, said that around 7pm, vigilante members raised the alarm that a group of bandits—riding on about 23 motorcycles—was advancing toward the area. He said residents immediately alerted security agencies, but no help came throughout the attack.

“Throughout Sunday, there was no presence of any security personnel,” Bagobiri lamented. “We called before the operation, during the attack, and after they left with the abductees, but none of the security agencies responded.”

The renewed assault follows recent directives by the Kano State Police Command enforcing a ban on conveying passengers on motorcycles and restricting commercial tricycles from operating between 10pm and 6am, part of broader efforts to address rising insecurity across the state.

The fate of the newly abducted victims remains unknown at press time.
