Tegbe, Chinese Envoy Move To Deepen Nigeria-China Cooperation On Power, Infrastructure

Nigeria and China deepen cooperation on power, infrastructure and industrial development after strategic talks in Abuja.

Nigeria and China have intensified efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in key sectors of the economy, including electricity, infrastructure and industrial development, following high-level talks between the Director-General of the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), Joseph Tegbe, and the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai.

The strategic meeting focused on expanding collaboration under the Nigeria-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework and identifying practical areas of cooperation aimed at accelerating Nigeria’s economic transformation and modernization agenda.

During the talks, Ambassador Yu congratulated Tegbe on his appointment and reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Nigeria’s development goals, including continued cooperation on agreements reached at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in Beijing.

He stressed that enhanced collaboration in power generation, electricity infrastructure and other development projects remains vital to strengthening bilateral relations and delivering tangible benefits to both countries.

Responding, Tegbe described China as one of Nigeria’s key development partners and reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to deepening cooperation across critical sectors.

He expressed appreciation for China’s support and pledged closer engagement with relevant institutions to drive investment and partnership opportunities.

Tegbe identified power infrastructure, manufacturing and agriculture as priority areas where expanded cooperation could unlock jobs and economic growth.

The meeting reflects ongoing efforts by Nigeria to attract strategic investments to address infrastructure deficits, improve electricity supply and accelerate industrial development.

Analysts note that China remains a key partner in Nigeria’s development drive, with long-standing cooperation across energy, transport and telecommunications.
