Taylor Swift has announced a new song, “Patient Zero”, marking her first new release since her wedding to Travis Kelce.
The song is set for release on Friday after Swift sparked a frenzy among fans with a cryptic countdown on her website.
The countdown appeared above a red curtain and was due to end at 2pm Eastern time on Tuesday.
Swifties quickly began decoding the clues, with the singer also changing her Instagram bio to read: “And, baby, that’s sh0w business f0r y0u.”
The zeros in the phrase appeared to hint at the title of the new song.
When the countdown ended, Swift’s website revealed three limited-edition CD versions of “Patient Zero.”
The releases include a double-sided cover, an acoustic version and a piano version. Each is priced at $3.99.
The song is Swift’s first new release since she married Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce at Madison Square Garden in July.
Swift’s most recent album, “The Life of a Showgirl,” was released last October. She also contributed a song to the “Toy Story 5” soundtrack in June.
The announcement comes days before Swift is due to receive the inaugural Artist Director Honor at the MTV VMAs on Sunday.
The award recognises artists whose work behind the camera has expanded music video and visual storytelling.
Swift currently shares the record for most MTV VMA awards with Beyoncé, with 30 each.
She has nine nominations at this year’s ceremony, behind Madonna’s 11 nominations.
Swift’s expected appearance at the VMAs has also fuelled speculation that she could make further announcements during the ceremony.
The singer has previously used major performances and award shows to unveil new music and other projects.
Emmys Clues Fuelled Fan Theories-The announcement follows Swift’s appearance in a pre-recorded sketch at last week’s Emmys.
She played a rookie in the “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” office alongside Mariska Hargitay, who plays Olivia Benson.
In the sketch, Benson used crime boards to connect Swift’s songs with Emmy-nominated shows while detectives tried to determine whether she would attend the ceremony.
Swift was not at the Emmys in person. She was at Arrowhead Stadium watching the Kansas City Chiefs play the Denver Broncos.
During the sketch, Swift appeared to give viewers a series of cryptic clues. “Saccharide. Ares. From the Vineyard. North or South.”
Fans have since been trying to decode the message, adding to speculation around Swift’s next release.
