State Police Proposal Set For National Assembly, Nigeria Governors’ Forum Confirms

Nigeria Governors’ Forum confirms the legislative framework for state police creation is set for National Assembly

Nigeria’s governors have indicated that proposals to create state police forces could soon be submitted to the National Assembly.

After leading over twenty governors on a Sallah visit to President Bola Tinubu at his Ikoyi residence, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, said consultations with security agencies are ongoing under the supervision of the National Security Adviser.

He added that governors have submitted recommendations for a legislative framework enabling states to operate their own police services.

The forum also pledged closer cooperation with federal security agencies to combat terrorism and enhance safety across the country, responding to rising concerns over banditry, insurgency, and other security challenges.
