Sony and Marvel Studios Spider-Man: Brand New Day has continued its record-breaking run at the global box office, surpassing $1 billion in international earnings just 12 days after release.
The film has now grossed an estimated $1.67 billion worldwide, including $655 million from North America and $1.01 billion from overseas markets, making it the 12th highest-grossing movie of all time globally.
The Destin Daniel Cretton-directed superhero film is now the second-fastest movie ever to cross the $1 billion mark internationally, trailing only Avengers: Endgame.
With its strong performance, Brand New Day has become the 16th film in history to earn more than $1 billion from foreign markets and is now approaching the possibility of joining the exclusive $2 billion global box office club.
The film recorded a powerful second weekend worldwide, generating $381 million, with $236 million coming from international markets.
In North America, the Tom Holland and Zendaya-led movie earned $145 million in its second weekend, marking the third-biggest second weekend performance ever and placing it among the few films to surpass $100 million during their second weekend.
Internationally, Spider-Man: Brand New Day topped the box office in most of its 67 markets across more than 72,800 screens, with Korea being one of the few exceptions where Universal’s The Odyssey claimed the top spot.
China remained the film’s biggest overseas market, contributing $29.1 million for the weekend and pushing its total earnings there to $186.7 million.
The movie also made history in India, becoming the biggest Hollywood release ever in the country after adding $10.6 million during the weekend, bringing its Indian total to $52.8 million.
Other major international markets include the United Kingdom with $87.4 million, Mexico with $65.8 million, France with $49.2 million, Australia with $39.1 million, Germany with $37.6 million, and Italy with $31.1 million.
Meanwhile, Universal’s The Odyssey has also maintained a strong box office performance, earning $1.1 billion globallyand becoming director Christopher Nolan’s highest-grossing film ever.
The movie recorded a fourth global weekend haul of $110.7 million, with international markets contributing $79.2 million.
Elsewhere, Pixar’s Toy Story 5 has crossed another major milestone, reaching $1.094 billion worldwide to become the studio’s third-highest-grossing film ever, overtaking Toy Story 3 and Toy Story 4.
The animated sequel is now the eighth-highest-grossing animated film released by the Motion Picture Association and remains a dominant performer in markets including Japan, Mexico and several Latin American countries.
Universal’s Minions & Monsters also continues its theatrical run, with the animated title reaching $473.5 million globallyafter adding another $12.7 million during its sixth weekend.
With its unprecedented momentum, Spider-Man: Brand New Day remains on track to set further box office records as it pushes closer to the $2 billion global benchmark.
