South Korea’s Lee Watches Hypersonic Missile Test As Seoul Pushes Advanced Weapons

South Korea’s Lee watches a hypersonic missile test as Seoul pushes advanced weapons and strengthens its military capabilities.

President Lee Jae Myung observed the launch of a hypersonic glide vehicle as South Korea intensifies efforts to expand its advanced missile capabilities.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung oversaw the test launch of a hypersonic glide vehicle capable of flying at low altitudes, the presidential office said on Thursday.

The test came shortly after North Korea announced that leader Kim Jong Un had supervised the launch of its own intermediate-range hypersonic missile.

South Korea’s presidential office described the newly tested weapon as a strategic capability, noting that its high speed and unpredictable flight path could allow it to strike targets with little warning.

Lee called on researchers at a state-run institute responsible for missile development to accelerate work on the weapon and prepare it for deployment as soon as possible.

The latest test comes amid continued tensions over missile development on the Korean Peninsula, as both North and South Korea advance technologies aimed at improving the speed and effectiveness of their military systems.
