Soludo: No Time In Nigeria’s History Has Seen Greater Elite Consensus On A President’s Performance

Anambra Governor Charles Soludo eulogises Tinubu, says Nigeria has never witnessed greater elite consensus on a president’s performance.

Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo has said Nigeria has never witnessed greater elite consensus on economic reforms and the re-election of a presidential candidate than under President Bola Tinubu.

Soludo made the remarks while delivering a goodwill message at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, where he expressed support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.

The governor said the level of agreement among political leaders and the elite over the direction of the country’s economic reforms was unprecedented.

“In terms of the economic management of this country, there has never been any time in our history where there has been, when there has been greater elite consensus about the trajectory of economic reforms. Never before in the history of Nigeria,” he said.

Soludo also said the level of political support for Tinubu’s re-election was unlike anything he had witnessed in Nigeria’s political history.

“The history I know about our politics, look around the history of Nigeria. There has been no time in our history when you have such a constellation, a consensus of opinion that one man deserves to be re-elected in this country. It has never happened before,” he said.

He pointed to the presence of governors at the event as evidence of the political support for the President, while arguing that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) should also be counted among the progressive political parties backing the reform agenda.

“At the political arena, if you do the numbers, the first time you have about 33 governors seated here out of 36, you can do the math,” Soludo said.

The governor described the economic reforms pursued by Tinubu as difficult but necessary, urging political leaders to unite behind the administration’s chosen direction.

“The path you are going, the path that you have chosen, that you have had the courage to take, are the difficult but necessary, required path,” he said.

Soludo said the next phase of the administration should focus on accelerating reforms and translating economic stability into shared prosperity.

“In the second term, I want to believe, it’s not if you get second term. We’re talking about when you get there. Of course, it is when you get into the second term.

“It’s the acceleration and the transformation process. We’re going from stability, reform, to shared prosperity. That’s what it is.”

He added that the country should maintain its current direction rather than abandon the reforms.

“It’s not every time that you have to, you know, pull in one direction or the other. There is a pathway that is walking.”

Soludo concluded his message by reaffirming his support for the President.
