Singapore PM Lawrence Wong Convenes Electoral Boundaries Review, Signaling Possible Early Election

Singapore PM Lawrence Wong has ordered a review of electoral boundaries, a move that often signals an upcoming general election.

Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong announced on Wednesday that he has convened a committee to review the country’s electoral boundaries, a move that often precedes a national election in the city-state.

In a statement, the Elections Department confirmed that Wong has directed the revision of the register of electors, which is set to be completed before April 1. “The panel will then submit recommendations to me in due course,” Wong said in a Facebook post.

Typically, Singapore’s general elections are called two to four months after the completion of the boundary review process, suggesting the possibility of an early vote.
