Senegalese authorities arrested 14 people in connection with an alleged paedophile gang operating between Senegal and France.
Police said investigators “carried out a major operation, dismantling a transnational organised criminal group,” in a statement on Sunday.
The suspects, all Senegalese, appeared in court on Friday. They face charges including organised paedophilia, pimping, rape of minors under 15, sodomy, and intentional transmission of HIV/AIDS. Four of the accused allegedly acted under instructions from a Frenchman arrested in northern France last year.
Authorities say the gang has been active since 2017. Investigators claim the group forced young boys into unprotected sexual acts with men, most reportedly HIV-positive, and filmed the assaults.
Raids were conducted in Dakar and Kaolack to apprehend the suspects.
