Russia Says Ukrainian Drone Strike Ignites Fire at Railway Station in Volgograd Region

A Ukrainian drone attack triggered a fire at a railway station in Russia’s Volgograd region, according to Russian authorities.

A Ukrainian drone attack overnight damaged a power line and ignited a fire at a railway station building in Russia’s southern Volgograd region, the regional administration said on Monday.

According to a post on Telegram citing Governor Andrei Bocharov, an unexploded drone was also found on railway tracks near the Archeda train station. However, authorities confirmed that the tracks themselves sustained no damage.

Russia’s state news agency TASS reported that several regional trains experienced delays as a result of the incident. Meanwhile, flights at Volgograd’s regional airport were suspended for several hours and later resumed operations at approximately 0300 GMT, according to the civil aviation authority Rosaviatsia.

Russia’s defence ministry said its forces destroyed 61 Ukrainian drones across various regions overnight, including six over Volgograd. The ministry, however, did not disclose how many drones had been launched in total.

Bocharov described the assault as a “massive” strike aimed at both energy and transport infrastructure.

Reuters noted it could not independently verify the claims, and there was no immediate response from Ukrainian authorities. Kyiv has previously targeted infrastructure inside Russia it considers crucial to Moscow’s war effort, including in the Volgograd region, which lies relatively close to the Ukrainian border.
